Zumba® (offical website www.zumba.com) is a “feel-happy” workout that is great for both the body and the mind. It combines high energy and motivating Latin inspired music with unique EASY TO FOLLOW dance moves that allow the participants to dance away their worries. It’s an exhilarating hour of calorie burning, heart racing, muscle pumping, body energizing movements that are fun and easy to do! You won’t even realize you are exercising.
Do I need to have any previous dance experience?
NO! Zumba is for everyone! Zumba moves are low impact and easy to follow. We stick to basic dance moves from each style of dance. Zumba was designed for people with all different levels of fitness experience. Remember, Zumba ® was created so that anyone and everyone can do it!
What if I'm not coordinated and I can't dance?
Zumba is not a dance class. It is a group fitness class that utilizes basic dance steps into a fun cardiorespiratory workout. The moves are so fun you get the feeling as though you are dancing rather than participating in an hour fitness class. The songs are repeated for up to 8 weeks so the more you come to class the more you learn the moves. The instructor verbally and visually cues the class on when and how to do the moves. Remember, Zumba ® was created so that anyone and everyone can do it!
What should I wear?
Comfortable breathable clothing that you can easily move in. Loose fitting workout pants or shorts are recommended. NO bulky heavy sweat pants or long sleeve shirts. Dress to keep your body cool. It is important that you wear a comfortable supportive athletic shoe to class, preferably a flat shoe or a dance fitness shoe to decrease your chance of injury. Unlike running shoes that use a heavy tread on the bottom and are designed for forward movement, the dance shoe is designed for lateral floor movement which we do much of in Zumba class. Wear shoes that do not have a lot of tread at the bottom and are meant for medial/lateral/twisting motion. Women: a good support bra is important for Zumba -- we shimmy those shoulders often!
Do I need to bring anything to a class?
WATER: It is always recommended to drink plenty of water before, during and after your workout so bring a bottle of water to keep yourself hydrated during class. SMALL HAND TOWEL: A small hand towel is optional to dab off that sweat!
